Why the Time is Right to Discover New Eating Habits

Eating habits are like walking paths. We use them because we are familiar with them and it is easy. What if they are not healthy? Now is the right time to discover new eating habits.

Meal and eating preferences are often ‘caught’ not ‘taught’. As children, we were trained to eat what was put in front of us. By the time we reach adulthood, these observed eating patterns can be like well-worn trails, we just follow along because we always have. The even stranger part to me is that we have a tendency to expect to develop the same diseases as older family members, because ‘it runs in the family’.

What if it doesn’t run in the family as much as it runs in the consequences of our diet choices long term?

Since there are little substantial nutrition and eating courses on a broad scale that are taught in schools, whether public or private, the majority of people just kind of eat like they saw others eat or how they ate in their childhood homes. There isn’t much thought put into this part of our lives and health.

That has left us at the mercy of the marketing genius (and preferences) of the food industry at large, restaurants, grocery stores and consumer product goods (CPG) companies.

No wonder we have so many food-related autoimmune problems worldwide. For people who have developed health issues and disease, you can then add some more voices, who also have a vested interest in our intake, such as the diet industry and the pharmaceutical industry (which also influences the doctors who are treating the health issues and diseases).

We have turned over the health and well-being of ourselves to outside influences that gain financially by the eating decisions we make.

 

It doesn’t have to stay this way.

It is never too late to make a new start. You can decide today that you want to develop new, healthier, eating habits. In the long run, your body will thank you.
