Creating healthy and delicious memories

“I believe that we can have delicious baked goods that are good for us at the same time. Everyone wants to eat foods that will nourish our bodies, NOT foods that will eat us alive from the inside out after we eat them. Grain Free Mama’s baking mixes give nourishment. This is a big part of sustaining our planet. First we sustain the people, then as healthy people we will take better care of our planet home. That’s REAL SUSTAINABILITY. Grain Free Mama’s Sustainable Development Goal is #2: ZERO HUNGER. Our belief is that this will happen when all people, regardless of income, have access to health-giving foods. SUSTAINED PEOPLE WILL SUSTAIN THE PLANET.” -Margie Traxler

My Story

Despair and Discontent marked the beginning of my journey in late 2003. My struggle with a malfunctioning gallbladder left doctors baffled, as I had no gallstones. Eventually, they decided to remove it, believing it would solve the issue. To my dismay, I became even sicker when I followed the recommended BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast). This forced me to make a radical shift in my eating habits. Anything even remotely questionable in my previous diet became off-limits overnight.

The Defining Event occurred in January 2004 when my 6-year-old daughter suddenly doubled over in pain. We rushed to the emergency room, fearing her appendix had burst, only to find all tests coming back normal. Fortunately, my sister Patty, studying to be a natural nutritionist, suggested the problem might be related to food. Seeking answers, I consulted the best naturally trained doctor I could find in Longmont, Florida. Within minutes, he diagnosed my daughter’s issue: wheat and sugar were creating a toxic combination, damaging her intestines. This revelation prompted a drastic change in our diets.

The Defining Moment came when we left the doctor’s office, walked through the aisles of a nearby Whole Foods market, and realized everything had changed. All the products we used to enjoy were now off-limits. Trying a gluten-free baked good, we stood in front of the store, toe to toe, facing each other and took a bite. The product exploded like sawdust in our mouths! Her eyes started to water and her chin began to quiver. That moment sparked a determination in me. I made a ‘pinky promise’ to her that one day, we would provide the products and resources we wished were available to us. This vow set me on a journey to study different cultures, ingredients, and ultimately create a new way of making delicious baked goods that were free of inflammatory properties. Today, as the founder of Grain Free Mama’s, my dream is to help others find hope, achieve food freedom, and rediscover the joy of natural, healthy eating.

Thank you, Margie!!
